Parents: Before your son before leaves for practice or game EACH day, the COVID-19 Preparedness Plan of the New Ulm AL/VFW requests:
If any of these apply, keep your son home and notify the coach. No player will be penalized for missing practice or a game for any COVID-19 related absence.
Coaches: At the start of EVERY practice or game, the COVID-19 Preparedness Plan of the New Ulm AL/VFW requests that your ask the following questions:
If anyone answers yes to any of the above, the coach will supply a face mask and immediately remove the player from the dugout/field and have the parents notified.
Coaches also need to strongly encourage the following of their players:
With the States continued relaxation of various social gathering guidelines, now allowing youth sport practices (with certain restrictions) and the anticipation that competitive games will be allowed in the hopeful near future. The New Ulm Legion/VFW baseball committee has decided to prepare for the possibility of games. This involves prospective players in both the Legion and VFW age groups. We understand this is short notice. We don’t quite know yet what the “season” will look like, however we do know there will be NO state tournaments. Our effort is line up games with local teams.
At this time coaches are notifying players who previously registered for summer baseball, by email, text, or phone calls. We need to quickly assess the number of players interested in playing a shortened season. If you or your son has not been notified by a coach, feel free to reach out to me or any committee member. Your son did not have to previously register for summer baseball, your son just needs to be age eligible.
Our program will follow State of Minnesota and CDC guidelines and has prepared a COVID-19 Preparedness Plan in accordance with those guidelines. Your son’s health and safety, and the health and safety of our coaches, spectators, umpires and committee members is our number one priority. We feel we can provide a safe environment while your son participates in youth baseball.
I understand we have delivered conflicting messages in the last few weeks and for that we apologize. We have followed guidelines and restrictions as presented to us and some of those guidelines and restrictions have changed over time.
Our goal is to provide our players an opportunity to play the sport they love, while keeping them safe and healthy.
Please contact me with questions or concerns and if a coach has not contacted our son. We want all players who interested in playing summer baseball to participate.
President of the Baseball Committee,
John Fischer
